RCHS Membership

This month begins the annual membership drive for the Randolph County Humane Society. Your membership dollars make a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of homeless cats and dogs. WV Div of Highways

The Division of Highways has announced the construction to replace the Crystal Springs Bridge on WV92, between Elkins and Aggregates, from Old Route 33 Crystal Springs Exit off Corridor H (US33). The work will require traffic be detoured along CR11 and CR14 through Crystal Springs. Work is scheduled to continue for 10 months. Delays in that area are to be expected. The general public is encouraged to use the Elkins Exit off Corridor H to bypass the contruction and avoid delays.

Battery Recycling

The Tygart Valley Youth Group and Community of Elkins Recycling Program are now accepting small household batteries for recycling. For example, double A, C, or D size batteries. For more info call 304.940.0804

Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation

Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation and Tygart Valley Lions Club host the annual Rifle Rally on Sat Mar 3rd at the Elkins National Guard Armory. A $35 ticket gives you a chance on several guns, cash prizes, complimentary food and refreshments. Tickets are limited and on sale now at Beverly Heritage Center or from any Tygart Valley Lions Club member. Camp Horseshoe

Elkins Farmers Market Winter Markets

People's Law School

People’s Law School is an educational and informative opportunity for the public to learn about the law.  A panel of attorneys will discuss different subjects of the law including: Personal Injury, Wills & Estates, Criminal Law, Business Law, Juvenile Delinquency, Magistrate Court, Small Claims and Landlord-Tenants, Family Law and more… It's a 7 week program every Thursday evening 6pm-8:30pm at the Randolph County Circuit Courtroom, second floor of the Randolph County Courthouse. It's a free program.. For more information or to register call Judge Wilfong’s office at 304-636-3815 and ask for Alexa McCartney. 

Artist Vince Trimboli Exhibit

A solo exhibition of the recent work of Elkins artist Vince Trimboli will be on display in the Maxwell Gallery of the Randolph County Community Arts Center. The exhibit, “Organic Movement of the Body and Color”, will run through March 2nd..  Trimboli’s exhibition will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..

Elkins Public Library

Elkins Public Library is open Saturdays from 10am - 4:55pm.. regular Monday - Friday hours (10am - 8:55pm) will continue... Wednesday free reading hour for 3-4 year olds accompanied by caregivers at 10:30am... there's reading, a refreshment break, and coloring or other activity.. a qualified staff member will lead the reading hour, a service of Elkins Public Library..

Quilts, Old & New Exhibit

Quilts, Old and New, an exhibit featuring eleven quilts on exhibit at the Randolph County Community Arts Center through March 3.  The exhibit is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10am to 4:30pm.

The Randolph County Community Arts Center, a non-profit organization promoting and supporting the arts in Randolph County and the surrounding areas, is located at the corner of Randolph Avenue and Park Street in Elkins. The RCCAC is supported by private donations as well as the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. Buckhannon clothing for those in need

Wayside Southern Baptist Church in Buckhannon is offering free clothing, shoes, coats and sometimes household items.  Come by the  2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 9am -12pm.  Everything is FREE and anyone is welcome to anything that they, their friends or their family could use.  Please do not come to get things to resell in yard sales!!

FREE MEAL

Local churches have organized to serve a free meal each Saturday from 11AM - 1PM at Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, 113 First Street. No questions asked, no income guidelines.

Alanon family group

Alanon family group meets every Tuesday at 8pm… Anonymous support group free for anyone affected by another’s drinking problem.  Upstairs at the Grace Episcopal Church in Elkins (not affiliated with the church)

City Kitty Snaps

Petsmart Charities & the Randolph County Humane Society have teamed up to offer “City Kitty Snaps”, a program to help spay and neuter cats for Elkins city residents who meet the income guidelines.  To see if you qualify call Kelly at the animal shelter at 636-7844 or Faye at 636-6367.  The goal is to reduce the number of unwanted cats and kittens in the Elkins area and provide a “forever” home for each and every cat.

Energy Express

Are you interested in helping kids in your community? Volunteer at Energy Express!  Energy Express is a literacy and nutrition program that makes learning fun. Energy Express has a site in Randolph County at George Ward Elementary. For more information on how to help or to donate supplies, call Randolph County Contact, Amanda Haller at 304-636-2455.

Prescription drug take-back

The Randolph County Family Resource Network America's Promise Coalition is supporting the West Virginia Consumer Drug Return Partnership and their efforts to keep medications out of our water supplies. When medications are flushed or washed down the drain, our streams and rivers can be at risk from the chemicals released. Health Center Pharmacy is the drop off site in Elkins (Randolph County) that provides "take back" of prescription medications.  You may drop off medications at the pharmacy to be properly disposed.  If drop off is not an option for you, then please dispose of medications by doing the following:

1. Take your prescription drugs out of their original container or package.

2. Mix drugs with an undesirable substance, such as cat litter or used coffee grounds.

3.Put mixture into a disposable container with a lid, such as an empty margarine tub or sealable bag.

4. Conceal or remove any personal information, including Rx number, on the empty containers by covering it with black permanent marker or duct tape or scratching it off.

5. Place the sealed container with the mixture and the empty drug containers, in the trash.

POGS Support Group

POGS is a support group for parents and families of children with developmental delays.  POGS provides an atmosphere where families can share their stories, successes, heartbreaks and breakthroughs.  POGS meets the first Monday of every month from 6:00to 8:00pm at the Elkins City Park and during inclement weather inside the back entrance of the First Baptist Church next to the park.  All children are welcome at these meetings.  For information call 304-227-4159
