Red Cross Blood Donations
Officials of the Greater Alleghenies Region of American Red Cross Blood Services have raised concerns related to the impact of recent weather patterns seen across the country on the area’s blood supply. “These winter storms have resulted in the loss of approximately one-third of the potential collections.” Currently, there is less than a day’s supply of O negative and B negative blood types, and less than a two-day supply of A negative. Harlem Globetrotters at Wesleyan
The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters will return to West Virginia Wesleyan’s John D. Rockefeller IV Physical Education Center on Tuesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. “The Ambassadors of Good Will” will battle their long-time nemesis, the Washington Generals. Tickets are $30 for lower level and $23 for upper level seats. All seats are “bleacher style” and on a first-come, first seated basis. Proceeds from the Globetrotters appearance will benefit the West Virginia Wesleyan Department of Athletics. Camp Counselors Needed
College students looking to put their skills to good use will want to check out YMCA Camp Horseshoe. Horseshoe summer camp counselors are needed to make a difference in the lives of campers Horseshoe’s summer season includes nationally recognized teen civic leadership and entrepreneurship camps, adventure camp for 7 – 12 year olds and Youth Opportunity Camps for low income boys and girls. Summer residential staff enhances their work experience as they use their talents to help teens and children. Summer positions provide a stipend, an AmeriCorps Education Award to eligible summer camp counselors, meals and lodging. Petsmart Charities & the Randolph County Humane Society have teamed up to offer “City Kitty Snaps”, a program to help spay and neuter cats for Elkins city residents who meet the income guidelines.
